Lupus Foundation of America

Mission
The mission of the Lupus Foundation of America is to find "the causes of and cure for lupus and providing support, services and hope to all people affected by lupus."

Why You Should Support Them
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes the body to produce autoantibodies which attack healthy tissue.  Thus, this results in inflammation, swelling as well as damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart and lungs.  There are different forms of lupus and approximately 1.5 to 2 million Americans are currently suffering from this disease.  While there is no known specific cause of lupus, researchers believe that lupus is related to genetics and environment.

Started in 1977, the Lupus Foundation of America has played an essential role in fighting lupus by providing financial support for researchers, offering support to those affected by lupus and their families as well as educating the public on this disease and its affects.

How You Can Help
Are you interested in helping find a cure for and support research of lupus?  Well, the Lupus Foundation of America has lots of ways that you can help.  Of course, one of the most important ways you can help is by spreading the word by hosting your own health fair.  Remember knowledge is power.  By giving those in your community free information on the disease and health screenings, you'll helping them to stay ahead of the game.

You can also join the Walk for Lupus Now event, volunteer at a local Lupus Foundation of America chapter in your town or even host your own fundraiser.

  1. What a fun surprise this morning! Scrolling through my reader and I see the LFA spotlighted! I work for the LFA - I'm the National Walk Manager based in California. This is a great spotlight and the LFA is an incredible organization. My Mom has lupus so my commitment to this Foundation goes beyond being an employee. We also host Walk for Lupus Now events across the country. You can find your local Walk for Lupus Now event at www.walkforlupusnow.org. You can also find your local Chapter or Support Group Network at lupus.org.

Thanks for spotlighting such an incredible organization. Lupus is not talked about enough -- and while we are making huge strides in our quest to cure lupus, 80% of women don't know what lupus is. Thanks for helping to bring awareness.

  2. @Jill-Thanks.

@Christi-Thanks for checking out the post. Your comment really means a lot. And the fact the 80% of women don't know what lupus is is exactly why I started March For Charity. It not only raises awareness about the charity but the causes they are working to heal. I will certainly be getting involved in with my local chapter and blogging about it. Keeping your mom & family in prayer that one day a cure will be found.
