I Got That Fire

According to the lovely Amber from The Yeyo Diaries, YUMMommy got that fire yall!!  She has graciously given me the 'Blog on Fire' Award.

I'm so honored to have received this award from one my blogger peers.  It says a lot when your peers choose you out of all the other blogs they follow and read.

Anyways, part of being accepting this award requires that I share seven things about myself.  So, in no particular order here they are...

~I've worn glasses for twenty-three years. Yes, that's longer than some people have been married.
~I recently co-authored a book with a group of awesome ladies!  More about that one coming soon. Stay tuned.
~I'm not a morning person.  Seriously, I'm not.
~I've never traveled outside of the US.  Sad, but true.  That's on my list of things to change though.
~I'm addicted to gummy bears, Twizzlers, Slim Jims, cookie dough ice cream and Mike & Ikes.  Like for real, I've eaten over a pound of Twizzlers in one setting before and can do some major damage on a half gallon of cookie dough ice cream.
~I love to cook.  You all will see more of this in 2012 on here as I share recipes.
~My favorite animals are horses. I want to own at least one before I die.

Well, enough about me.  I'm now going to pass this lovely award on to some ladies that I think are pretty awesome.

Thankful Thursday

This week I am very thankful that YUMMommy is a finalist in CBS-Charlotte's Most Valuable Blogger contest!!  That is a huge honor for me.  It just further proves to me that YUMMommy is touching others and that's most important.  While we're on the subject I would love it if you could swing over there and vote.  Click here.

Also, if you have blog on one of CBS's local sites that's up for Most Valuable Blogger please be sure to let me know in the comment section so that I can go and vote for you too!!  I'm all about bloggers supporting bloggers.  We have to spread the love people.  Also, if you wouldn't mind use the share buttons to either share the word to Facebook and/or Twitter friends, I would appreciate that too! Thanks!

I'm really thankful that Tuesday the kiddies and I got to spend time with my younger sister and her husband. They treated the kids and I to lunch and a mini shopping spree.  I thought it was super nice and thoughtful of them.  And no it's not anybody's birthday or anything.  They did it just because.  They love kids but don't have any of their own.  They also offered to babysit if ever we needed sitters in the future.

With my one year marriage anniversary coming up, I might have to take them up on that offer for a few hours.  I'm thankful that my mom is feeling better.  She really has to start taking it easy and taking better care of her body.  I keep telling her that she's not a spring chicken anymore.

I'm thankful that JJ and Moo are doing well.  They're both growing and thriving quite well developmentally.  And I have finally got Moo's nose bleeds under control.  We have to stay in the house or wait until it cools off in the evenings to go out but it is what it is.  Thank goodness for coloring books.  And we finally got a little regimen that has been working well for JJ's eczema.

And as always, I'm thankful for you guys for hanging in here and reading what I have to say.  I'm thankful for all the comments and feedback and support.  It truly means a lot.  YUMMommy is still growing and the best is yet to come.

What are you most thankful for this week?

My Weekend WrapUp

So, it's been a while since I've done a weekend wrap-up.  I kinda miss it and think I'll be bringing this feature back.  Anyways, this weekend was particularly interesting.    Saturday, I got sleep in late because Moo didn't get up extra early like she usually does.  And my husband had the day off.  So, we got to hang out and watch tv together.

That same afternoon Moo and I went out for a little mommy and me time.  We were suppose to go to the store to pick up some beef broth for gravy but ended up with a lot more in our cart.  Thankfully, though it was all stuff we needed with the exception of the candy.  I've been working really hard on not spending money carelessly.  I've been doing some freelance blogging for this UK site called ccMyself.com and have been trying to save the money from that gig.

I'm desperately trying to take a family vacation next year.  My husband and I haven't been on a vacation together since we started dating.  I've been on several with my family but he seems to always be working when we go.  So, he's agreed to not take his vacation time until like May or early June and I want to do a cruise or a road trip.  I know you're thinking I'm nuts doing a road trip with two kids.

But the fact of matter is that Moo will be three and JJ will be one.  It's time to start making memories that include the house, Grandma's house or anybody else's house.  I'd like to start taking them to places like Disney World, the Martin Luther King, Jr Monument and more.  I want to expose them to different cultures and environments.

Sunday, I got late and didn't make it to church. I've finally found a church that is a good fit for us to go to up here when I don't head back home to go to my home church.  And I didn't go out to get my Sunday paper so I missed out on my coupons. Maybe, I can hit the recycling center and see if they still have some Sunday papers they haven't shredded up and started recycling yet.  Also, Sunday, I found out that YUMMommy was a finalist in Charlotte's Most Valuable Blogger Contest hosted by CBS Radio. (Vote if you haven't already. Please and thank you!!)

Next weekend I'll be attending my great cousin's wedding.  Looking forward to it because I'll get to see some of my distant family that I don't get to see on a regular basis.  Plus, my mommy is coming up since the wedding is going to be here and it'll be good for her to get out of the house a little bit too.

And heads up, I'm working on doing a College Supplies Scholarship for next fall.  I'll be releasing more details this week.  Also, in the process of working on turning Young Urban Modern Mommies into a foundation/registered nonprofit. I'm researching the best way to go about it and brainstorming about the programs and services I want to offer.  As always thanks for all of your support.  And I love your comments!!  Keep them coming!!

I'm Nominated!!

Yay!!!  I got nominated and made it as a finalist CBS Local Most Valuable Blogger here in Charlotte in the Lifestyle and Family Blog category!!!  I'm beyond stoked!!!  Pretty please vote for me by clicking on the button below.  You can vote once per day or twice if you vote from your computer and smart phone.  Voting ends September 9th.

If I win this will open up so many more doors for YUMMommy.   Spread the word please!!!

Versatile Blog Award

Good morning!!!  I just want to say that I am so honored that Sharina from Surviving Motherhood loved my blog enough to give me the Versatile Blog Award!!!  I'm super stoked because this is like my second blog award.  I feel like I just won a Grammy or Moon Man from MTV or something.

Seriously, it means a lot to be given an award by one  of my readers.  It means much more to receive this award from someone who is a fan of my writing than from some organization or committee who is just reading my blog for the first time.  I really appreciate Sharina for even just remembering me for this award.

Rules For Winning This Award
~Thank & link back to the person who gave you the award.
~Share 7 things about yourself.
~Pass the award to 15 other bloggers you've recently discovered and think are fabulous.
~Contact the bloggers you chose & let them know about the award.

My 7 Things
  1. I'm a mommy of one very busy one year old little girl.
  2. I've been engaged to  my fiance for almost five years!  Long time I know.
  3. I'm a Fashion Merchandising major.  I know you're probably wondering why I did just start Fashion Blog right?
  4. I'm the second oldest of five kids, but I really feel like the oldest and often get pegged as being the oldest by other people.
  5. I love horses.  I'm like totally obssessed with them and secretly dream of owning a black stallion one day.
  6. I have an addiction to reality tv.  I'm talking Teen Mom, Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, Kate Plus 8, Cake Boss, etc.
  7. I drink soy milk.  I always heard that it tasted bad, but since I had an allergic reaction to cow milk during my pregnancy and had to switch to soy, I've been hooked ever since and haven't had cow milk in almost three years!!!
My Fab 15

I'm Going Places

I would like to thank Ms Baby Plan for giving YUMMommy the You're Going Places Award!
She writes a very touching blog documenting her journey to becoming a mother called The Baby Plan.  I was introduced to her blog by Future Mama's blog.  And I have to say that she is so open and honest with her readers.  Her posts don't come off forced or phony, but intimate and sincere.

I really appreciate the fact that she thought of my blog to pass this award to.  I am deeply honored and gladly accept it.  This is my Second award for YUMMommy!!! Part of accepting this award requires that I tell you guys where I hope/plan/want/will be ten years from now.  So without further ado....

In ten years, I see myself as an established, multi-award winning, best selling author.  I will be the mom of a very busy 11.5 year old. (Moo is 1.5 now.)  And I'm sure you guys will be laughing uncontrollably about all of my adventures with her preteen issues that are guaranteed to follow.  I hope to be happily married.  Still on the fence about baby number 2.  However, I'm sure we'll have a cute little Yorkie with nice exotic name.

I want to be more involved with the community and see myself sponsoring charity balls, volunteering and mentoring other young women.  I see Young Urban Modern Mommies as a global foundation that will not only serve as an outreach to American moms, but those in under developed countries as well.  I see my fashion and jewelry line being a huge success.  I see my family and I living in our dream home.

Most importantly, I see myself stronger and more rooted in my relationship with God.  I hope that in ten years I will have met a few of you in person and created wonderful friendships where we send each other Christmas cards and dinner party invitations.

Now, I would like to pass this award to a few special blogs and people that I have had the pleasure of reading and connecting with.  I truly think that these people are going places to say the least.

Kenya Mack: She is certainly going places.  She's a published author who has mad skills.
She is also a soon to be 1st time mommy!!  I hope to meet her in person one day because
we have had a blast connecting through our blogs and via Facebook.

Mommy Glow:  What can I say? Alex is an amazing young mom who shares about her
experience of having been a teen mom, not having a stable support system and co-parenting among other things.  This is a must read blog for other young moms out there.  I'm certainly looking forward to meeting her and bonding in person.

The Soul Mom:  Another wonderful blog, I've had the pleasure of stumbling across.  She certainly has soul and passion!!  I even used one of her quotes as my Quote of the Day.  (Check out the top box in the left sidebar.)

The Savvy Sista:  I enjoy reading this blog throughout the day because I get my fix about what's going on in the Black community.  I mean she blogs about everything from entertainment to real life news and more.

Haute Travels:  This is the Vogue of travel blogs!!!  Never has traveling been made so appealing.  I truly recommend this blog to all fashionistas and travel lovers out there.  I was actually inspired by Haute Travels to start doing a little bit more traveling of my own. The world is this big canvas waiting for me to make my brush stroke.

Baby Makin{g} Machine:  I can't really remember how I stumbled across this blog, but it was the very 1st blog I subscribed to on here!!!  I mean from the first post I read, I was hooked.  I admired the fact that Future Mama put so much of herself out there for readers to get to know.  She is much more than a blog/Twitter/Facebook personality.  She is an amazing person.  And I'm glad that I've gotten the opportunity to bond with her through her blog and Facebook as well as Twitter.  I truly hope to meet her in person.  I see so much of myself in her that it's crazy.

In closing, I hope that all of you check out the blogs I mentioned. I think that you will find that these ladies each have a story to tell.  And while they might be similar, they are oh so unique and inspiring.

YUMMommy Receives Trendy Blog Award!!!

I am proud to announce that Mommy Glow has bestowed YUMMommy with the Trendy Blog Award!!

This is our very 1st blog award.  I feel so honored and humbled that anybody would think of my blog as trendy.  I always thought of my blog as being different or unique. Now it's great to be able to officially add trendy to my description.  As I accept this award, I just want to thank God first of all for giving me the courage and strength to put myself out here the way that I do.  I want to thank my mom because without her, I wouldn't be here.

And I have to thank my lovely daughter, Moo.  She has been the topic of many of my posts already and I'm sure that she will continue to be going forward.  Thank you to all my supporters and friends who keep me encouraged and motivated.  Thank you to all the silent stalkers who come by and read my posts but can't bring themselves to comment.  Your presence is still greatly appreciated.
